Track Count Number, by DianaDee Osborne

Track count – the higher the better... or is it?
This RECORDING HINTS blog focuses on
GarageBand but hints work in ProTools, Logic, etc.
Sample photo of a song project:

Photo does NOT show many tracks.

Duplicate tracks (1&2,  and 5&6,  and 8&9) are useful to
PAN the sound to different speakers... Sometimes I have a 3rd Center track too.
So yes, sometimes "more than minimum" is a better choice for track count.

But a HINT:
Keep a library of tracks with NO EFFECTS
separate on your computer,
one file folder per song
with a title like AMAZING GRACE TRAX
and keep original tracks there.

Then if you goof in setting EFX and
can't figure out how to undo it,
you always have a  SAFETY  BACKUP TRACK.
Also keeps your program cleaner since you don't have to
fill your screen with MUTED tracks.
Of course -- those you can always hide!
